Online tax preparation for Alaska

Tax Preparation Services in Alaska

Alaska has no individual income tax, so individuals file only the federal return. We prepare it, plus Alaska Form 6000 or 6900 for businesses. You see the scope and fee first, and nothing is filed until you approve it.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 in client reviews, with 1,000+ returns filed. Consultations with a US CPA start at $59.

Alaska's corporate tax starts from federal taxable income, which is why the two returns are prepared together. Alaska has no individual income tax, so individuals file only the federal Form 1040, due April 15; an extension to October 15 extends the time to file, not to pay.

The IRS treats the dividend as taxable income, so it is reported on your federal return.

These are typical paths, not a filing determination. Elections, ownership, residency and where you earn income can change what you file; your consultation confirms it.

Filing in Alaska: what's different

The rules that most often change an Alaska filing, checked against Alaska statutes and Alaska Department of Revenue (DOR) guidance on 27 October 2026.

No individual income tax

Alaska's income tax does not apply to individuals, so wages, pensions and self-employment income are taxed only federally. Only corporations pay Alaska income tax.

0%No individual income taxAlaska residents file only a federal return for wages and personal income.

The Permanent Fund Dividend is still taxable income on your federal return.

Which Alaska return?

Form 6000
C corporations and S corporations with Alaska nexus. S corporations generally complete page 1 only.
Form 6900
Partnerships, including LLCs taxed as partnerships, doing business in Alaska with a corporate partner.
Form 1040
Individuals file only the federal return. Alaska has no individual income tax return.

Alaska adopts the federal Internal Revenue Code by reference, so its corporate figures start from your federal return.

Key dates for calendar-year filers

  1. Jan 2

Corporations and LLCs file the biennial report with the Division of Corporations, every two years based on the year they were formed.

  2. Apr 15

Individuals file the federal 1040 only. S corporations file Form 6000, partnerships with a corporate partner file Form 6900, and C corporations pay their tax.

  3. May 15

C corporations file Form 6000, 30 days after the federal return is due.

  4. Oct 15

Extended Form 6900 and S corporation Form 6000 returns are due, as are extended federal individual returns.

Alaska returns are due 30 days after the federal due date, so they may not fall on the 15th. A federal extension extends Alaska filing to 30 days after the federal extended date, not the time to pay.

Corporate income tax

C corporations pay graduated Alaska rates: zero on taxable income under $25,000, then 2% to 9% in steps, and 9.4% on income over $222,000.

Business license and biennial report

Anyone doing business in Alaska needs a state business license: $50 for one year or $100 for two, expiring December 31. Corporations and LLCs also file a biennial report due January 2.

Local sales tax

Alaska has no state sales tax, but several cities and boroughs levy their own. Remote sellers above $100,000 in Alaska sales register with the Remote Seller Sales Tax Commission. We confirm registrations during scoping.

Accounts or assets outside the US?

US taxpayers with foreign bank accounts, investments or non-US funds can have three separate reporting duties: the FBAR, Form 8938 and Form 8621 for PFICs. Each has its own rules, and filing one doesn't satisfy another.

A PFIC is a foreign corporation with at least 75% passive income or at least 50% passive assets. Questions about filing in Alaska

Something specific to your situation? Ask a US CPA in a 30-minute consultation.

Can Savetaxs prepare both my federal and Alaska returns?

Alaska has no individual income tax, so individuals and sole proprietors file only the federal return, which we prepare. For businesses, we prepare federal entity returns together with Alaska Form 6000 for C and S corporations and Form 6900 for partnerships with a corporate partner. Your consultation confirms which filings apply to you.

The work is done online, by video or phone, with documents shared through an encrypted upload.

Is the Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend taxable?

Not by Alaska, which has no individual income tax. The IRS treats the dividend as taxable federal income, reported on Schedule 1 of Form 1040, so it belongs on your federal return like any other income.

I moved to or from Alaska this year. Do I file an Alaska return?

No. Alaska has no individual income tax return, so there is nothing to file with Alaska for the part of the year you lived there. The state you moved to or from may need a part-year return, and we map each one during scoping.

Does my single-member LLC file anything with Alaska?

Not an income tax return when an individual owns it, because the LLC is disregarded for income tax and Alaska does not tax individuals. It still files a biennial report with the Division of Corporations, due January 2 every two years ($100 for a domestic LLC, $200 for a foreign LLC), and needs an Alaska business license.

When is the Alaska corporate return due, and how do extensions work?

Form 6000 is due 30 days after the federal return's due date, so a calendar-year C corporation's 2025 return is due May 15, 2026. The tax itself is due when the federal tax is due.

A federal extension automatically extends the Alaska filing date to 30 days after the federal extended due date. It does not extend the time to pay.

How is pricing determined?

A consultation with a US CPA starts at $59. Filing is priced per return, based on forms and schedules, the number of states, your entity type and the condition of your records. Bookkeeping is priced on monthly volume. You see the fee before you proceed.

I have bank accounts or mutual funds outside the US. What do I need to file?

Possibly one or more of three forms. The FBAR (FinCEN Form 114) applies when your foreign financial accounts total more than $10,000 at any time in the year, and it is filed with FinCEN, not with your tax return. Form 8938 has higher thresholds and is attached to your income tax return. Filing one does not replace the other.

If you own shares in a non-US mutual fund or other passive foreign investment company (PFIC), Form 8621 may also be required for each fund. See our foreign asset reporting service.
