An inoperative PAN card restricts filing ITR, opening a bank account, investing, reporting transactions, and receiving refunds. However, your PAN will remain valid for identification purposes but will become unusable for financial compliance.
You can do so by updating your residential status in the Income Tax Database. This is usually done by submitting a request through the official portal of either NSDL or UTIITSL, or by updating the details via Form 49A/Form 49AA, depending on your category.
